After studying briefly at art college, Don Wincup decided to follow family tradition by going to sea. He joined the Merchant Navy, gaining his Master Mariner certificate. During the years at sea he maintained a keen interest in art, exhibiting locally and abroad.

Since coming ashore he has devoted much time to his watercolours, many of which depict tranquil scenes of the Norfolk Broads.

The Norfolk Broads is an inland area of lakes and intersecting rivers with over 200km of navigable waterway. This area has special status similar to that of a national park.
